General Information Print E-mail

Our aim is to provide a national service for the collection and disposal of fallen stock that farmers use from choice. We do this by creating competition at local level to keep prices low and by providing high levels of biosecurity.

The Scheme is voluntary and is designed to assist farmers and horse owners to comply with the Animal-By-Products Regulation which prevents on-farm burial of fallen stock by providing a Scheme which offers a reliable, low cost means of disposal.

In addition, the Collectors charges are offset using Government funding – Government provides a contribution to these charges on a declining basis until November 2008. This contribution is currently set at 10% - For more information Click here .

I hope you find the site useful and informative. If you have any general comments or queries about NFSCo, please let us know.

How NFSCo Operates Print E-mail

The Scheme is managed from the head office in Milton Keynes where Jason King is based along with Rachel Gould and Hazel Cooper (both part-time).

The helpline and administration of the Scheme is conducted by the Ian Potter Associates, based in Ashbourne and managed by Ian Potter. The teams are there to register new members and deal with queries from farmers and collectors.

The Board meet six times a year along with Jason and Ian to discuss current issues and future strategy. Regular contact is upheld in between meetings to keep the Scheme running efficiently.

Owners meetings take place to enable decisions regarding the running of the Scheme to be made. This includes decisions on the % rate of the Grant and the future of the Scheme after 2008. Stakeholder meetings are also held regularly to gain input from representatives from the livestock and disposal industries. Regional meetings are held for collectors to allow issues and ideas to be discussed.
